If you’ve been scrolling Instagram lately and feeling like your reach has hit a brick wall, we have some good news: It’s not just you.

At Brandi & Cameron, we’ve spent the first few weeks of 2026 deconstructing the new algorithm updates. The verdict? The days of the "perfectly curated grid" are officially in the rearview mirror.
Instagram has moved from being a digital photo album to a full-blown Discovery Engine. If you want your business to actually get found this year, you need to change how you’re playing the game.
Here is the Brandi & Cameron breakdown of what matters right now.
1. SEO is your new best friend
Instagram is officially competing with Google. People are searching for "best [your service] near me" directly in the IG search bar.
What we’re doing about it:
Captions matter again: We’re ditching the one-word "vibe" captions. We’re writing like humans search—using keywords naturally so the algorithm knows exactly who to show our content to.
Keywords over Hashtags: We’ve cut down to 3-5 hyper-specific hashtags. The rest of the "heavy lifting" is done in the first two lines of our captions.
2. The “FaceTime” Effect
In 2026, high-production value is actually a bit of a turn-off. With AI content everywhere, users are craving humanity. The best-performing content right now feels like a FaceTime call with a friend. It’s raw, it’s recorded on a phone, and it’s authentic. We’re leaning into "Day in the Life" clips and "Unfiltered Advice"—showing the messy behind-the-scenes of Brandi & Cameron, not just the highlight reel.
3. "Saves" are the new "Likes"
The algorithm is obsessed with Retention. It wants to know: Is this content valuable enough for someone to keep? A "Like" is a split-second reaction. A "Save" is an intent to return. We are focusing on creating "Bingeable" carousels and Reels that offer so much value you’d feel silly not hitting that save button.
4. Direct Messages = Growth
Instagram is prioritising "Private Sharing." If your post gets sent in a DM to a friend, the algorithm gives it a massive boost. We’re moving away from shouting at our audience and moving toward starting conversations.
2026 is the year of the Expert. It’s not about how many followers you have; it’s about how many people trust you.
We’re spending this year being more helpful, more transparent, and a lot less polished. And honestly? It’s a lot more fun this way.
